With the revelation that many of supposed 30 minute flat entrance fire doors at Grenfell failing in their functional need, Security door manufacturer ASSA ABLOY have written an industry white paper with m three main recommendations:
1. Only 3rd party accredited `door sets` should be installed (complete door leaf and frame).
2. Only accredited competent installers should be considered to fit fire doors.
3. A mandatory 6 month inspection programme by accredited competent persons should be in place for all multi-occupied buildings
This is a current change in direction to the only recommendation for fire door inspections within Annex I of BS9999.
It will have to be seen how this document may influence any future government direction retaining to fire doors and overall fire safety, but it is a welcome and long overdue first step
